Hotels, Trips and Tours of Oman

In complete contrast to the UAE, the Sultanate of Oman has a magical appeal and as yet, it is virtually untainted by tourism.

Considered the last undiscovered outpost of Arabian life, it has one of the oldest civilisations in the Arabian Peninsula stretching back thousands of years with notable periods of greatness in the ancient world and in medieval times.

Oman is a country rich in Arabic culture and the people have preserved its traditional arts, dance, music and customary style of dress. Its diverse and breathtaking landscapes offer dramatic contrasts and include mountain peaks and springs, vast sand dunes and deserts, spectacular wadis and ancient forts, and unspoilt beaches.

Oman has a fairly cosmopolitan lifestyle and as in the UAE, alcohol is available in hotels. During the month of Ramadan (a given date in September to the same given date in October annually), there are some restrictions and alcohol may only be available in hotel rooms. some restaurant restrictions may also apply. As a general guide it is considered disrespectful to eat, drink or smoke in public during daylight hours. Muscat

Oman's enchanting capital is located over a number of districts amongst the hills and mountains and as such, the city has three urban areas Muscat, Matrah and Ruwi. The Main City of Muscat is set on a beautiful bay behind which lies a dramatic backdrop of mountains. The main souk has changed little over the centuries and the original city walls, still intact, gives the city a wonderful ancient ambiance.

On the other side of the hills to the West lies Matrah, the port of Muscat. It also has one of the best souks in the area. Ruwi is the only inland district of Muscat and is where the commercial district is located.

Salalah

Salalah, the 'garden city' of the south in the region of Dofah is a tropical paradise with garden farms of coconut, banana, papaya and vegetables. This is a landscape of contrasts. In winter, dry desert mountains but in summer during the rainy season (July and August) the landscape turns a lush tropical green. Sleepy fishing villages, on miles of deserted coastline, frankincense trees dotting the landscape, camels wandering the magical desert. It is a land where time would seem to have stood still.
